Abstract
Teachers and other K-12 Educators throughout the country are gaining access to more and more forms of 21st-century technology through the support of technology grants, state and local monetary incentives, and federal Race to the Top funding. From iPads, Computer Labs, B.Y.O.D. initiatives, and interactive white boards like SMART and Promethean, educational technology has permeated nearly every aspect of modern public education. In a recent study done by by Digedu, over 600 K-12 educators across the United States were surveyed in an attempt to understand how technology was being used (and conversely, not used) by average classroom teachers. What they found was cause for serious concern, though not altogether surprising: teachers are bombarded with innumerable tech tools and inadequate training on how to use them to their full potential. Nearly half of those surveyed said that they lack the training needed to use technology and effectively with with their students. This module is a response to that need. Because SMART Boards are some of the most common and widely used forms of classroom technology, it is of paramount importance that these tools are utilized, and utilized to their fullest potential. It is the aim of this module (and others like it) to educate and empower teachers to use education technology as effectively and effortlessly as they would their whiteboards today.
